From late 2002 to early 2007, I fronted my second 3-piece roots rock
and roll band, the JumpKatz.
By now, I considered my self a much more accomplished guitarist and
musician in general. My guitar chops, both electric and acoustic, had
matured and grown, along with my guitar collection. In addition to
my faithful Telecaster, I had a Yamaha hollow body electric, a Gretsch
White Falcon, along with my Takimine acoustic and Framus acoustic
(all but the White Falcon were used in the JumpKatz recording).
Again, once I felt I had a good band in place, the desire to record
overcame me. With the buy-in from the band, we set about composing.
I came up with twelve original songs, our bassist Dave another six,
and into the studio we went.
The JumpKatz recording is more complex in general than my previous
recording experience with the Highway Hepcats. I was looking for
a more complex sound than just live off the floor, so I utilized far
more overdubs and layers of guitars. Most of the tracks feature
both acoustic and electric parts dubbed, as well as solos dubbed.
We were also more adventurous vocally, with more complex song
structures and harmonies. The tracks:

The Way It Goes
The eighteen tunes are a reflection of what we played live, only
with an original twist. The styles are all derived from our cover
tunes, with cover songs, including, rock'n'roll, blues, country,
classic rock, rockabilly, ballads, and lots and lots of
harmony singing, something we prided ourselves on, even with
our admittedly limited vocal talent. We were very proud with the
result of such an ambitious undertaking.
