Play Better Guitar - Expand Your Horizons
The most adaptable system is Guitar-eze.
If you've already played some guitar... been frustrated... want to play better guitar... want
to play guitar differently... want to be more versatile on guitar... want to play guitar more easily... want to play guitar
by ear... want to play guitar more by "feel"...
Here's where a guitar player can become a better guitar player.
That is - a more versatile guitar player.
Let's face it - every guitar player has changed tunings. Even if it's just drop-D,
or putting on a capo.
What if you could play guitar - really play guitar - for more than just one song or one lick
- in another tuning. You owe it to yourself to try. I've seen the jaws drop when I play. I've watched the
puzzled expressions from the audience. I've seen the raised eyebrows from fellow guitar players. Here's what Wikipedia says about open D tuning, the basis for Guitar-eze.
The comments are always the same -
"what a great sound"
"that's so full sounding"
"you do leads like that?"
"that's a whole new thing"
"wow"
It's all one simple move - to the world of open-tuned guitar. Of course, it's absolutely
perfect for beginning guitar, acoustic or electric.
But it's a whole new world for the guitar player.
Just a few of the benefits of open tuned guitar like Guitar-eze's open-D:
- riffing - like you've never riffed before
- slide guitar - the way it was meant to be played
- harmonic and overtones you never dreamed of
- a low-end crunch like nothing else
- acoustic tone like nothing else
- "ear players" especially love it
- playing by ear is enhanced dramatically
- Guitar-eze open-D opens the door to other interesting tunings
...and on and on. It's as if standard tuning was just the (more difficult)
primer or starting point. Now you can really start to play guitar.
Flipping back and forth is no problem, either. And of course, open tuning is nothing
new. Check any guitar website out there. They all make reference to open tunings. This method just puts
it altogether for a guitarist who wants a different way to play. Players like:
- Keith Richards
- Ry Cooder
- Joni Mitchell
- Elmore James
- Bo Diddley
- Muddy Waters
- Jimmy Page
- Mick Taylor
- Don Everly
- Robert Johnson
- Bonnie Raitt
- John Lee Hooker
...and countless others. So why is open tuning so under-appreciated and under-utilized?
- standard tuning (as the name implies) is the adopted standard
- standard tuning is not the easiest or most versatile tuning
- a simpler guitar method is generally not a good thing for music schools
- standard tuning is great
- open tuning is great too
- add open tuning like Guitar-eze to your guitar arsenal
That's what I suggest on this web site. Especially if progress is slow in standard
tuning. Frustrated guitar player? You owe it to yourself to give Guitar-eze a try.

Considering Price Increase
Due to ever increasing costs, a price increase on the Guitar-eze Combo package is long over-due. This is the popular
book-CD-chord book package, reduced in price to $34.95 plus shipping. Shipping and production costs are eating away at my
already slim margins; as well I want to ensure quick delivery, which nowadays everyone expects.
The problem is finding
the time to re-jigger the whole darn site to refect a new price - no easy task... and lucky for you! I would urge anyone
who has or is considering Guitar-eze to order quickly. As soon as I get the time, the price will have to increase, likely
to over $50 (which will include shipping) - probably closer to $60. So $34.95 becomes a great bargain. Take advantage while
you can.
Thanks. Have a super weekend and enjoy your browse of Guitar-eze - the easier way to play guitar.

So Many Aspiring Guitar Players
1) alternate guitar tunings
and more important,
2) simplified guitar tunings
which naturally morphs into
3) more happy guitar players - of all ages!
I've had so much positive feedback of late, I thought I just had to comment on it. From the 70 year-old man with
the stiff fingers who loved the blues, to the frustrated parents whose kids are wasting time and money on useless guitar lessons...
it's great to know I have a viable alternative for all of you.
I've said it before, but it bears repeating - all you Satriani's and Eddy's, and other guitar wizards out there - this
site probably ain't for you. Good on ya! Although, you too could probably benefit from a quickie crach course on open-D.
We had a guest at our jam a couple weeks back, Gary Gelinas (as good a guitarist as there is in this town), who just marvelled
at the way I play - said he'd never seen anything like it, and commented on the fullness of my sound. I took it as a
huge compliment, because this guy blew the whole room away all evening with his amazing chops. Regardless, this site
is for the
frustrated
novice
I'll never be able to play guitar
types, primarily. Judging by the flood of communication I'm getting, Guitar-eze is hitting the mark as - the
easier way to learn to play guitar. Cheers.

The I-IV Relationship in Guitar-eze
It has to be one of the most common progressions in so many types of music, especially played on guitar - the I-IV
(one-four). This is the root chord in any key (for example a G chord in the key of G) and the major fourth (for example a
C chord in the key of G).
Remember the Temptations classic "The Way You Do The Things You Do" - that guitar
intro - two chords one after another - a perfect example of a I-IV pattern. I play that particular song in the key of A so
for me the progression is a repeating A-D-A-D right off the top. It sounds wonderful, and memorable.
In standard tuning,
it would probably take a beginner weeks or even months to build up to playing that pattern proficiently. The fingerings are
difficult to master. Switching between them is even harder!
In Guitar-eze, this I-IV pattern is simplified to the
point where a beginner (no exaggeration here) could be playing it in one sitting. Maybe one hour. In all likelihood, far
less time than that.
That's because in Guitar-eze open-D, your starting chord would be played with one finger, and
the IV chord would be a simple manipulation of that one-finger starting point. It's magical.
This amazing I-IV relationship
is just one of the aspects covered in the book and accompanying CD. Remember for a limited time, you also get the Guitar-eze
Chord Book with your purchase, free.
Happy browsing.

Flattering Comment about Guitar-eze Open-D Guitar Tuning
Comment received on my other blog, the Open-D Guitar Spot, and I quote:
"Thank
god I found your blog. I've been playing around with alternative tunings for about a year now. Playing at home for fun, changing
tunings is no big deal, but on stage its hard to adjust on the fly. Open-D is the easiest and most versatile. The intonation
is nice. You can do lot more percussive work. My hands are small so my work in standard tuning is really limited. I'll take
some time to check out what you have to say. Just wanted to say hey and thanks for putting the topic up."
Wow
- Nicely put and thanks!
