Play Better Guitar - Expand Your Horizons
The most adaptable system is Guitar-eze.
If you've already played some guitar... been frustrated... want to play better guitar... want
to play guitar differently... want to be more versatile on guitar... want to play guitar more easily... want to play guitar
by ear... want to play guitar more by "feel"...
Here's where a guitar player can become a better guitar player.
That is - a more versatile guitar player.
Let's face it - every guitar player has changed tunings. Even if it's just drop-D,
or putting on a capo.
What if you could play guitar - really play guitar - for more than just one song or one lick
- in another tuning. You owe it to yourself to try. I've seen the jaws drop when I play. I've watched the
puzzled expressions from the audience. I've seen the raised eyebrows from fellow guitar players. Here's what Wikipedia says about open D tuning, the basis for Guitar-eze.
The comments are always the same -
"what a great sound"
"that's so full sounding"
"you do leads like that?"
"that's a whole new thing"
"wow"
It's all one simple move - to the world of open-tuned guitar. Of course, it's absolutely
perfect for beginning guitar, acoustic or electric.
But it's a whole new world for the guitar player.
Just a few of the benefits of open tuned guitar like Guitar-eze's open-D:
- riffing - like you've never riffed before
- slide guitar - the way it was meant to be played
- harmonic and overtones you never dreamed of
- a low-end crunch like nothing else
- acoustic tone like nothing else
- "ear players" especially love it
- playing by ear is enhanced dramatically
- Guitar-eze open-D opens the door to other interesting tunings
...and on and on. It's as if standard tuning was just the (more difficult)
primer or starting point. Now you can really start to play guitar.
Flipping back and forth is no problem, either. And of course, open tuning is nothing
new. Check any guitar website out there. They all make reference to open tunings. This method just puts
it altogether for a guitarist who wants a different way to play. Players like:
- Keith Richards
- Ry Cooder
- Joni Mitchell
- Elmore James
- Bo Diddley
- Muddy Waters
- Jimmy Page
- Mick Taylor
- Don Everly
- Robert Johnson
- Bonnie Raitt
- John Lee Hooker
...and countless others. So why is open tuning so under-appreciated and under-utilized?
- standard tuning (as the name implies) is the adopted standard
- standard tuning is not the easiest or most versatile tuning
- a simpler guitar method is generally not a good thing for music schools
- standard tuning is great
- open tuning is great too
- add open tuning like Guitar-eze to your guitar arsenal
That's what I suggest on this web site. Especially if progress is slow in standard
tuning. Frustrated guitar player? You owe it to yourself to give Guitar-eze a try.
When you get Guitar-eze, you've got me as often as you need. Help is always just an
e-mail away, anytime.

Interesting Experimenters
Here are some ways you can discover guitar for yourself, without all the technical standard tuning guitar stuff. These guys
took Guitar-eze open-D and started to experiment:
"I just wanted to mention a couple of Open D chords that I find
fun and easy to play which I didn't see in your book.
The first one is a Dominant 7 Aug 9. If the root is 'A' it looks
like:
D 10 A 10 F# 7 D 7 A 7 D 7
My son and I call it the "Jimi Hendrix" chord. You
get a "Purple Haze" sound if you play the three low strings as a power chord twice and then hit all 6 strings for
the Jimi chord.
I also have found a couple of other ways to play minor chords:
D 7 A 7 F# 10 D 10 A
7 D 7
This would be a Am. I use my little finger to barre the two notes on the 10th fret.
And Am7 would be:
D
10 A 10 F# 10 D 7 A 7 D 7 "
Thanks for the great tips! I look forward to all your inquiries and
orders this weekend.

Re-tuning Your Guitar
It's actually easier to tune your guitar in Guitar-eze open-D, because you have 3 D-strings. Plus you have two
A-strings. With so much string overlap (separated by octaves), it's actually much less of a big deal to tune up your
guitar.
Guitar-eze gives step by step instructions on how to tune your guitar, both to and from standard tuning, and also if
you just want to tune the guitar to itself.
The CD that comes with Guitar-eze includes recorded tuning notes, so you can always tune your guitar to Guitar-eze open-D
whenever you want.
Tuning to and from standard tuning to Guitar-eze open-D is really quite simple also. For anyone who has tried drop-D
tuning (making your lowest string a D instead of E, you are already half way there, as you have the D A D done.
Then, you just make the jump with the rest of your strings, to F# A D (from G B E), and you have it!
If you are buying a tuner make sure it is a chromatic tuner - these have all the notes in an octave, versus guitar tuners
that just have the six notes used in standard tuning.
Another note on tuning - for fans of open-G (another spectacular open tuning), it is quite simple to switch back and
forth from open-D also. I'll be going into this in another post, but if you would like more information, please e-mail me.

What You Get With Guitar-eze
The pages of this site tell you about Guitar-eze. Here's a little more detail on what you get when you buy. With Guitar-eze,
you get all you need to get going on guitar, more simply and easily. Guitar-eze is based on an easier alternate tuning (open-D),
designed to make it easier to create and change chords - many are just one finger-chords. However, they are perfectly legitimate,
beautiful sounding full chords (the tuning has been known and used for decades if not longer). Many pro guitarists know and
frequently use open-D or tunings similar to it.
You are in no way short-changing your self as a guitar player by learning
to play in Guitar-eze open-D. Whether you are an absolute beginner guitarist, or an experienced player, this way to play
guitar can benefit you. Also, for singers who want a simple way to accompany themselves on guitar, or for children (of any
age), Guitar-eze is a great way to learn to play guitar.
Guitar-eze is suitable for all musical styles, from rock to
folk, to blues, to country, and just about anything else.
When you order Guitar-eze, you'll get the book "Guitar-eze
- A Simpler Approach to Playing the Guitar". This is the backbone of the system. It's the must-read part of the system.
It shows you all you need to know to get going in Guitar-eze, in less than 50 pages. The book is broken into several chapters,
with diagrams, photos and end-notes. It shows you how to tune your guitar to Guitar-eze open-D, and then goes on to show
you the mechanics - you'll see how and why Guitar-eze is truly the easier way to learn to play guitar. Chords are demonstrated
and you'll see how dramatically easier it can be to play guitar - often with one finger chords and even an open chord with
no fingers on the fretboard - open-D!
The book also goes into strumming styles and patterns, along with scales. Through
the book you will also get snippets of my guitar playing philosophy. I encourage experimentation throughout. I encourage
you to feel the guitar, and find new chords and ways to play - for yourself. Because that's what playing music should be
about, first and foremost - your personal enjoyment. Guitar-eze removes many of the stumbling blocks beginning and frustrated
guitarists often experience.
With Guitar-eze you also have a CD-ROM which follows the text of the book. It also provides
recorded samples of patterns covered, plus, you get tuning notes which guide you through tuning your guitar. The CD has proven
to be a great help in structuring your learning. It is broken into 30 short and easy to follow tracks so you can review at
any time you like.
For a limited time you also get the Guitar-eze Chord book FREE with your order of Guitar-eze - a
$9.95 value! This companion volume offers over 200 wonderful sounding chords in Guitar-eze open-D - a terrific resource.
I
hope you, like me, find Guitar-eze truly to be "an easier way to play guitar".
