Play Better Guitar - Expand Your Horizons
The most adaptable system is Guitar-eze.
If you've already played some guitar... been frustrated... want to play better guitar... want
to play guitar differently... want to be more versatile on guitar... want to play guitar more easily... want to play guitar
by ear... want to play guitar more by "feel"...
Here's where a guitar player can become a better guitar player.
That is - a more versatile guitar player.
Let's face it - every guitar player has changed tunings. Even if it's just drop-D,
or putting on a capo.
What if you could play guitar - really play guitar - for more than just one song or one lick
- in another tuning. You owe it to yourself to try. I've seen the jaws drop when I play. I've watched the
puzzled expressions from the audience. I've seen the raised eyebrows from fellow guitar players. Here's what Wikipedia says about open D tuning, the basis for Guitar-eze.
The comments are always the same -
"what a great sound"
"that's so full sounding"
"you do leads like that?"
"that's a whole new thing"
"wow"
It's all one simple move - to the world of open-tuned guitar. Of course, it's absolutely
perfect for beginning guitar, acoustic or electric.
But it's a whole new world for the guitar player.
Just a few of the benefits of open tuned guitar like Guitar-eze's open-D:
- riffing - like you've never riffed before
- slide guitar - the way it was meant to be played
- harmonic and overtones you never dreamed of
- a low-end crunch like nothing else
- acoustic tone like nothing else
- "ear players" especially love it
- playing by ear is enhanced dramatically
- Guitar-eze open-D opens the door to other interesting tunings
...and on and on. It's as if standard tuning was just the (more difficult)
primer or starting point. Now you can really start to play guitar.
Flipping back and forth is no problem, either. And of course, open tuning is nothing
new. Check any guitar website out there. They all make reference to open tunings. This method just puts
it altogether for a guitarist who wants a different way to play. Players like:
- Keith Richards
- Ry Cooder
- Joni Mitchell
- Elmore James
- Bo Diddley
- Muddy Waters
- Jimmy Page
- Mick Taylor
- Don Everly
- Robert Johnson
- Bonnie Raitt
- John Lee Hooker
...and countless others. So why is open tuning so under-appreciated and under-utilized?
- standard tuning (as the name implies) is the adopted standard
- standard tuning is not the easiest or most versatile tuning
- a simpler guitar method is generally not a good thing for music schools
- standard tuning is great
- open tuning is great too
- add open tuning like Guitar-eze to your guitar arsenal
That's what I suggest on this web site. Especially if progress is slow in standard
tuning. Frustrated guitar player? You owe it to yourself to give Guitar-eze a try.
When you get Guitar-eze, you've got me as often as you need. Help is always just an

Acoustic or Electric - That is the Question
Beginning guitar - or any level of guitar for that matter. The question always comes up - which to focus on.
Sometimes, the question is "which is easier" or conversely "which is harder" - acoustic or electric guitar?
My take is - acoustic is easier to "get going" on, but harder to get really good at. Just the opposite for electric.
Acoustic is a fine jumpstart because there is no technology to deal with. How many students have I had where just
plugging the thing in, finding a cord, finding a strap, finding their pick, was an issue. Obviously that's all reduced
with the ol' flattop. Then there's the volume thing with electric guitar. Plus effects (distortion especially).
Beginners have little sense of achieving "a sound" on electric. It's more than enough trying to remember the finger
position from the last lesson. None of that with acoustic.
Just last night at a gig, I was chatting with a sound technician about live sound, and I made the comment that an amplifier
is really an extension of the guitar and the guitarist (he didn't seem to agree or want to agree).
Then comes the flip-flop. Once the basics are down, electric guitar to my mind is the more cooperative. Little
"technical" flaws and slips are washed over with volume and/or effects. Overtones jump out more to cover and thicken sound.
With acoustic guitar, the sound is much more exposed. Precision becomes much more important; consistency is a requirement;
with lover volume, attack can be much more varied and difficult to master. Often the neck of the guitar is more difficult
to master.
So there you go. Pick your poison. One thing is sure - no matter which, electrified or acoustic, a great
way to play is Guitar-eze - open-D tuning has to be the most versatile on either instrument. I speak from experience
- it's the only way I play.

Jam on Sunday the 12th
Great time at jam #19 which my band the JumpKatz www.jumpkatz.ca host at the Oasis bar at Place Concorde, Windsor, Ontario.
Featured a father-son duo as our special guests - Kenny and Mitch Aitken. Kenny is a Neil Young specialist, Mitch
a budding lead guitarist, more on modern rock-alternative style. But we all rocked together and it was great, as usual.
This has to be the best attended jam in southwestern Ontario. It was packed yesterday. Some great jammers
also, including regulars Kim Kelly and Doug Williamson on tenor sax, Dave Whitehead (guitar), Tracy Garneau (bass), Ted Bentley
(bass), Brian Smith (harp). In various combinations, we rocked the house all afternoon and into the evening - 4:30 -
8:30 pm.
By the way - it's a great way to check out Guitar-eze www.easierguitar.com in action. It's the only way I play guitar. We try to post pix of the action - check out our site for them.

The Site is Taking Shape
Continuing to add more links and navigation to make www.easierguitar.com as user friendly as possible. I'm especially interested in what "players" think about open tuning in general - open-D
in particular.
Think of it as drop-D tuning extreme. Many have probably wailed away on DADGBE or DADGAD for that low end texture.
It's not much of a leap to D A D F#A D. m6 chords sound amazing. So do maj7 chords. On acoustic it's sort
of a given (Joni Mitchell and the blues guys of old). But man, on electric - doesn't matter what style - you can make
it cry or sing, with overtones and harmonics out the wazoo. Notes seem to jumpout of nowhere.

Former Site Name was Guitar-eze.com
Just to let you know - if you have tried searching on or have found www.guitar-eze.com online, we are now called www.easierguitar.com. Hopefully, you will be able to easily re-direct to our new site.
The language of Guitar-eze revolves around an alternate tuning - open-D. Why these tunings are not more widely
known or used is beyond me because, quite simply, they can be an easier way to learn guitar. Easiest of all, I've determined,
is open-D - bar none (feel free to argue!). As I build this site, I'll delve deeper into the reasons. Please have
a look around and see if Guitar-eze is for you.

Hi there
We are just getting the site up and running. Hope you like it. We welcome your comments - so
email us. We'll be adding a guestbook, sign-up forms and all that stuff shortly.
I hope this site looks different from the typical guitar site. I do not advertise anything
else but Guitar-eze products. We have links page, and that's it.
I feel this site provides a real, under-utilized aspect of guitar (acoustic or electric) - and that is open
tuning. I play in several tunings but my preferred is open-D and that is the basis for Guitar-eze. I hope to turn
on many more guitar-lovers, beginner, intermediate, and advanced, to this amazing way to play, which has been so good
to me.
Take a look around, tell me what else I should add.
Thanks
Frank
